Inept jewelry thieves drive straight to pawn shop
(09 03) 14:02 PDT SAN LEANDRO Two suspects in the robbery of a San Leandro mall jewelry store were arrested after they went straight to a pawn shop to sell the stolen gold, police said Wednesday.
, 25, of Richmond and , idreddit.com 23, of Oakland were booked on suspicion of commercial burglary.
The incident began about noon Tuesday when Howell entered John’s Jewelers in the , presented a fake identification card to the clerk and asked to see a gold necklace worth $3,000, fake ids police said.
After being handed the necklace, Howell fled with it and got into a car driven by Brown, police said. A responding officer, who viewed surveillance video that captured Howell allegedly running to the getaway car, idreddit.com then provided a description of the vehicle to undercover officers.
Those officers soon found the car parked in front of a «Cash for Gold» pawn shop in East Oakland. They watched the men as they left the store and got into the car, which the officers stopped on the 1400 block of 66th Avenue in East Oakland.
The jewelry store clerk positively identified Howell, who was determined to be a parolee with two outstanding felony warrants, police said.
Officers recovered the stolen necklace at the pawn shop, idreddit.com which the suspects had sold for $950, police said. The money was allegedly found in Howell’s possession.
